A Reiki, Qigong and Kundalini Yoga Self-Healing Retreat with Reiki Level I Certification
This is a grounded and experiential long-weekend for:
- slowing down and restoring balance in the body,
- calming the nervous system,
- inner-standing of your innate self-healing abilities,
- and reconnecting with your natural state of clarity and presence.
Held at a luxury mountain estate in a serene setting surrounded by forest and breathtaking views, this retreat offers an opportunity to step out of daily demands and fast paced living. The place and setting invites us into an environment that naturally slows us down.
Nature is not just the backdrop of the weekend, it’s part of the experience.
A guided nature walk/hike will be included, offering time to connect and become aware of the subtle energies of the land.
In a world that often pulls us into constant thinking, doing, and reacting, many of us lose touch with the felt experience of being in our bodies.
The locale and our time together in this experiential space will together support regulation, cultivate calmness, encourage reflection, and bring a renewal of body, mind, and spirit.
This retreat offers a return to breath, presence, and balance within.
Through embodied practices within Qigong and Kundalini yoga, we will explore how energy is experienced in the body to deepen our awareness and slow down and listen.
You’ll also learn techniques and practices taught within Reiki Level I training to enhance your self practice of awareness and presence. You’ll also have the opportunity to complete Level I training and certification with an attunement ceremony.
These are simple and powerful practices that bring you back into balance.

- Greater awareness of your body’s internal signals.
- Repeatable practices you can use for stress reduction and grounding.

What is Reiki and what does Reiki Level 1 include?
Reiki Level I is woven into this retreat as an accessible and meaningful introduction to energy awareness, self-reflection, and personal practice. Rooted in the Japanese tradition of Usui Reiki Ryōhō, Reiki offers a gentle way to cultivate presence, relaxation, and greater awareness of the body’s subtle energy field. It is not a religion, though it is informed by philosophical influences from Buddhism, Shinto, and contemplative traditions that value harmony, compassion, and relationship.
During the retreat, participants will be introduced to foundational practices within Reiki for self-healing and everyday integration. You will learn simple hand positions for self-treatment and partner practice, explore sensing the energy field within and around the body. The practice is offered fully clothed and is intended to support relaxation, balance, and a deeper relationship with your own inner landscape.
Many people come to Reiki for personal growth, stress reduction, and a deeper connection to themselves. Some later choose to share it with others, while many simply integrate it quietly into daily life, relationships, and professional settings.
Most students are not full-time energy practitioners. They are often people navigating full lives as educators, healthcare professionals, caregivers, parents, artists, and others who are seeking practical tools for well-being, inner steadiness, and meaningful self-care in a fast-paced world.
Reiki’s adaptability is part of its enduring value. It can support emotional resilience, calm the nervous system, deepen presence, and offer a grounded way of working with energy that can naturally complement a wide range of professions and lifestyles.
This Level I retreat is suitable for those entirely new to energy work as well as those who have experience in other healing or contemplative practices, and it’s appropriate even if you’ve done Reiki Level 1 before. Participants will have the option to take part in a Reiki Level I attunement ceremony at the end to receive the certification.
During Level I, participants will:
- Explore the history and philosophy of Usui Reiki Ryōhō
- Develop sensitivity to the energy field within and around the body
- Learn Reiki hand positions for self-healing, table sessions, and seated chair practice
- Practice giving and receiving Reiki with fellow participants
- Participate in a ritual attunement ceremony
Please note: Reiki is taught here as a contemplative wellness practice. Those interested in offering professional energy sessions beyond personal practice should check with their state licensing boards regarding legal scope of practice.

Location
The retreat is located in Boone, NC in the Blueridge Mountains. The nearest airport is Asheville or Greensboro (PTI). Alternatively Raleigh and Charlotte are also options to fly into.
We’ll be staying in a secluded and luxurious mountain estate called Ridgeview Manor that has gorgeous views and abundant natural beauty.
You’ll have the chance to explore beautiful hiking trails, waterfalls, and nature walks during our time together.
Also available for use during your stay: a sauna, an outdoor hot tub with beautiful mountain views, 2 fire pits, plenty of outdoor seating on the 2 large patios, a hammock in the yard, and plenty of other outdoor areas, ensuring many ways to relax, and enjoy the natural beauty around you with others or for individual time.
There is free WiFi throughout the home, however, cell service is limited.
What is Kundalini Yoga?
Kundalini yoga is known as the yoga of awareness. It is a highly spiritual practice that uses breathwork, movement, sound current (chanting/mantra), drishdi (eye focus), and mudra (hand positions). If you’ve never done it before, just let go of all expectations and things you know about yoga and enjoy the experience with an open heart and open mind. 🙂
What is Qigong?
Qigong is considered Chinese yoga. It’s been practiced for centuries there to cultivate your Qi (Pronounced Chee), also known as Prana, or Vital Force Life Energy. Qigong uses breath combined with mindful movement to create a peaceful state within. It is very relaxing as well as energizing and good for all levels of physical abilities.

Amanda Todd, PhD
Amanda Todd, Ph.D., is an ordained Interfaith Minister, Reiki Master/Teacher, and published author whose work explores the intersections of nature, contemplative practices, and embodied awareness. Her doctoral work focused on the spiritual landscapes of the Appalachian Mountains, and for more than two decades she has supported others in deepening their connection to themselves and the natural world through energy practices and experiences rooted in place and presence. Amanda is devoted to creating experiences that feel both grounded and meaningful. Her approach blends reverence, intuition, ritual, and sensory-based practices, inviting participants into deeper self-understanding. She facilitates retreats, ceremonies, Reiki trainings, and immersive gatherings throughout North Carolina, and also leads occasional small-group journeys to Hawai’i and Scotland exploring sacred landscapes.

Julie Hutsell‑Starling, DACM, transformed her own experience with burnout into a powerful mission to help others reclaim their vitality, and remembrance of their innate self-healing abilities. Over the past two decades, she has guided hundreds of patients and clients through deep healing, via retreats, in-person acupuncture sessions, embodiment workshops, and soul coaching offerings. Passionate about getting to the root of the problem, Julie helps individuals reconnect with the wholeness of who they are at soul level. Her work integrates 5‑Element acupuncture, Qigong, Kundalini Yoga, soul‑level healing, and her signature embodiment workshops infused with sound current.

About Dr. Julie
Dr. Julie Hutsell-Starling is an acupuncturist, health coach, Qigong instructor, and Kundalini yoga teacher, and has spent the last 20+ years exploring the power of the mind-body connection and the power to heal ourselves. She considers herself a Way-Shower, guiding her clients and students back home to who they truly are. She has been working with private clients and acupuncture patients since 2003, and has worked with thousands of individuals over the years.
She creates and teaches embodiment workshops to allow for deep healing to happen through the body. These workshops include physical practices such as breathwork, mindful movement (Qigong and Kundalini yoga), chanting, and meditation, with music and sound healing expertly woven to create unique, deeply healing, and transformative experiences.
